Animal, Self and Society, University of Colorado, Coursera

In the Animal, Self, and Society course from the University of Colorado on Coursera, I explored how animals impact human identity, culture, and social dynamics. It was fascinating to see how deeply animals are woven into our lives, shaping not just ecosystems but also our values and relationships. This connection felt especially relevant to Nepal, where animals hold a unique place in society. In Nepal, we have festivals like Kukur Tihar (worshiping dogs), Gai Tihar (celebrating cows), and even festivals for crows and oxen, showing our deep respect for animals and recognizing their importance in our culture. The course gave me new perspectives on why societies honor animals and how these traditions help strengthen our ties to nature, reflecting the unique harmony between people and animals that’s celebrated in Nepal.
