Policy Analysis and Forest Governance 101 (RECOFTC)

About the course

The Policy Analysis and Forest Governance 101 course by RECOFTC provided a comprehensive introduction to forest governance frameworks, enabling participants to critically assess policies affecting forest management and sustainable development. Throughout the course, I engaged in hands-on activities that deepened my understanding of governance mechanisms, policy formulation, and stakeholder roles in managing forest resources. I contributed insights into policy and governance gaps within Nepal’s forest sector, drawing from my experience as a Research Officer in ForestAction Nepal’s Economic Empowerment of Women through Forest Solutions project. Here, I witnessed firsthand the challenges marginalized communities face in accessing and controlling resources. This work underscored the need for policy reforms to ensure equitable resource management, particularly for women in forest-based livelihoods.

One significant part of the coursework involved submitting a workbook where I documented my analysis of these gaps, reflections on governance challenges, and recommendations for bridging these gaps through inclusive policies. This experience strengthened my capacity to engage in policy dialogues on sustainable forestry and community-driven conservation.
